Job Purpose

The Contracts Manager will be responsible for managing a portfolio of mechanical smaller project and facilities management contracts, ensuring that projects are executed on time, within budget, and to the highest industry standards. The role includes overseeing contract performance, coordinating with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, and ensuring compliance with technical, legal, and safety requirements in the construction sector.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple contracts simultaneously, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling of projects from conception to completion.
  • Support in preparing proposals and bids for new projects and negotiate contracts and agreements as needed.
  • Oversee cost control measures, assist with preparing cost forecasts, and ensure profitability for all projects.
  • Source, monitor and manage subcontractor performance, ensuring compliance with both technical and safety standards.
  • Support procurement in the sourcing of materials and equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner, ensuring competitive pricing and quality service.
  • Coordinate with Site, QS and Engineering teams to ensure that all projects meet client specifications and are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor project progress, identify and resolve issues, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Handle contract variations, amendments, and extensions in line with client needs and project scope.
  • Monitor and track project performance, ensuring compliance with time, cost, and quality objectives.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations, and lead risk assessments for all projects.
  • Act as the key contact for clients providing updates and addressing queries etc.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide expert guidance on specific challenges and solutions during the contract or project lifecycle.
  • Authorise subcontractor payments and manage procurement of materials and services.
  • Produce detailed progress reports for senior management, highlighting key milestones, risks, and issues for resolution.
  • Make recommendations for continuous improvement in both operational and technical areas.
  • Foster productive, collaborative partnerships with internal and external Clients

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC and power distribution, including design, installation and operation.
  • Familiarity with H&S regulations and building codes.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with a customer-focused approach and ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other project management software.

Desirable

  • Degree or professional qualification in mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) for M&E projects.
