Job Title: Mechanical Estimator
Report to: Director of Operations

 

Job overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our team and support operations for our Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) contracting business. The
Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of accurate and timely cost estimates for mechanical services for projects across a range of industries, including life sciences, data centres, commercial and industrial.

 

Key responsibilities

• Support the preparation of accurate and timely estimates for mechanical
services, including process, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing
systems.
• Review project plans, specifications and scope of work to determine the most
appropriate cost-effective solutions.
• Assist in preparing subcontract and materials inquiries and review subsequent
quotations.
• Assist in preparing an accurate cost estimate for the preliminaries resources to
carry out the works in accordance with agreed programme and engineering
requirements.
• Contribute to preparing and presenting the commercial aspects of the tender to senior
management for approval.
• Assist in preparing the commercial tender for submission to the client.
• On acceptance of tender by client check proposed contract reflects the inquiry
documents and subsequent offer.
• Assist in preparing and presenting the commercial handover documents to the
contract delivery team.
• Attend site visits and client briefings when required.
• Work closely with clients and other colleagues to review tenders and handovers.
• Collaborate in the continuing improvement of Estimating reports and information
services.

 

Key requirements
3+ years of experience working as an Estimator or Mechanical Engineer
performing an Estimator role, or a Qualified Tradesperson in this sector would be
considered.
• An in depth understanding of the tendering process within construction.
• Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontractor management
is essential.
• Strong communication, engagement & presentation skills. Ability to engage
stakeholders & influence positive outcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Attention to detail in completing tasks in a proficient and timely manner.
• Strong negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
